Understanding Massage Costs: What Are You Paying For?

Before you book a service, you deserve to understand what it costs and what you can expect. Your time, your health, and your budget matter.

Massage prices vary because appointments can differ in length, purpose, specialized training, and the care involved.

What goes into the price?

A massage appointment involves more than hands-on time. Depending on the service, it may include reviewing your health history, discussing your goals, assessing movement within massage therapy’s scope, adapting techniques, documenting your response, and offering appropriate self-care guidance.

Fees also support professional training, clean facilities, equipment, supplies, and time reserved for your care.

Why do specialty services cost differently?

Post-operative care, lymphatic services, and structured bodywork programs may require additional screening, specialized techniques, positioning, supplies, or coordination with your healthcare team.

Some services are offered as a series. Before purchasing one, you should understand why it is recommended, how much it costs, and when your progress will be reviewed. A package does not guarantee a particular outcome.

Will I need more than one appointment?

Some people seek occasional support. Others may benefit from follow-up visits. Recommendations depend on your goals, health history, and response—not simply on selling a set number of appointments.

We discuss your options so you can make an informed decision.

How do I know whether massage is helping?

We begin with what matters to you. That might mean turning your head more comfortably, tolerating a workday better, or noticing less discomfort during an everyday activity.

We review your response and discuss whether to continue, adjust the approach, or recommend another provider’s input. Results vary, and massage does not replace necessary medical evaluation or treatment.

What about insurance and VA-authorized care?

Self-pay prices and insurance payment arrangements are different. Coverage, referrals, and authorizations must be reviewed before we represent a service as covered.

For VA Community Care, an approved authorization is required. Our office reviews that authorization before scheduling authorized services.
