Real Questions. Thoughtful Answers.
Because Understanding Your Care Matters
We understand that seeking massage therapy can bring up questions you may not always feel comfortable asking.
Whether you're concerned about pain, unsure what to expect, uncomfortable with your body, or wondering if therapeutic massage is right for you, we're here to help you make informed decisions.
At 4 Wellness & 4 Healing, LLC, we believe no one should feel embarrassed about asking questions concerning their body, comfort, or care.
Here are some of the questions we believe deserve honest answers.
Your Comfort & Privacy
Do I have to undress completely for my massage?
Absolutely not. You are encouraged to undress only to your comfort level. Professional draping is used throughout your session, exposing only the area being treated. Some techniques can also be performed while you remain clothed.
Your privacy and comfort are always respected.
What if I'm overweight or uncomfortable with my body?
Your body does not need to look a certain way to deserve quality care.
We welcome individuals of different body types, sizes, and physical abilities. Our focus is understanding your needs and providing respectful, individualized treatment—not judging your appearance.
Do I need to shave before my appointment?
No. Shaving is not required, and natural body hair is never a concern.
We ask only that you arrive with reasonable personal hygiene and inform us of any skin conditions or concerns that may affect treatment.
What if I don't want a particular area of my body touched?
You have the right to establish personal boundaries.
Before treatment, we'll discuss areas of concern and your preferences. You may decline treatment of any area, request modifications, or stop your session at any time.
Your consent matters throughout your appointment.
Let's Talk About Pain
Does therapeutic massage have to hurt to be effective?
No. More pressure does not always mean better results.
While some techniques may create temporary tenderness or mild discomfort, treatment should remain within a tolerable range.
We encourage you to communicate openly about pressure and how your body responds.
Why does my pain keep coming back after massage?
Pain can have several contributing factors, including repetitive movements, posture, muscle weakness, stress, injury, and underlying medical conditions.
Massage may help manage certain symptoms, but lasting improvement sometimes requires additional approaches such as exercise, rehabilitation, activity modifications, or medical evaluation.
Our goal is to help you better understand your symptoms and support your overall care.
Can massage help if I've been experiencing pain for years?
Therapeutic massage may help some individuals manage persistent muscular discomfort, improve movement, and support daily function.
However, chronic pain is complex, and results vary depending on the individual and underlying condition.
We focus on realistic treatment goals rather than promising a cure.
What happens if massage therapy isn't helping me?
Your progress matters.
If you're not experiencing meaningful improvement, we'll discuss your response to treatment, reassess our approach, and consider whether changes or additional evaluation may be appropriate.
Massage therapy isn't the answer to every condition, and recognizing when another healthcare professional may be needed is part of responsible care.
Understanding Your Health & Treatment
Can I receive massage if I have a medical condition?
In many cases, yes. However, certain medical conditions require treatment modifications, additional precautions, or medical clearance.
Please disclose relevant health conditions, medications, recent procedures, and changes in your health before your appointment.
Your safety always comes first.
Is massage therapy safe after surgery?
Post-operative massage requires special consideration.
The appropriate timing and techniques depend on the type of surgery, healing progress, complications, and your surgeon's instructions.
Medical clearance may be required, and treatment will only be provided when appropriate for your recovery.
Is manual lymphatic drainage the same as regular massage?
No. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a specialized technique that uses gentle, rhythmic movements intended to support lymphatic fluid movement.
Unlike traditional massage, MLD generally uses very light pressure and follows specific treatment principles.
Not every type of swelling is appropriate for lymphatic drainage, so proper screening is important.
How many massage sessions will I need?
There is no single treatment schedule that works for everyone.
Some individuals seek occasional maintenance care, while others may benefit from more frequent appointments depending on their condition, treatment goals, and response.
Recommendations are discussed individually, and you remain involved in decisions about your care.
Questions You May Be Hesitant to Ask
What if I become emotional during my massage?
Emotional responses can happen for many reasons, and there's no need to feel embarrassed.
If you become uncomfortable or emotional, you are welcome to request a pause, adjustment, or end to your session.
You are never required to explain personal feelings or experiences.
What if I have difficulty getting onto the massage table or changing positions?
Please let us know before your appointment.
We will discuss your mobility needs and determine whether safe, comfortable accommodations can be provided.
Your physical limitations should be considered when planning your care.
What if I fall asleep during my massage?
That's perfectly fine.
Some individuals become deeply relaxed during treatment. You may rest comfortably, and we'll communicate with you whenever adjustments or feedback are needed.
Can I speak up if something doesn't feel right?
Absolutely—and we encourage it.
Whether the pressure is uncomfortable, you're too warm or cold, or a particular technique doesn't feel appropriate, please tell us.
Open communication helps us provide safer, more individualized treatment.
